Profile

Since January 2008 I have been the Programme Director of the BSc Business Enterprise at the University of Buckingham, where I teach, advise, support and mentor students taking the innovative two year (8 term) honours degree in Business Enterprise. Currently, this is the only honours degree programme in Europe which offers undergraduate students the opportunity to study for a degree in Business Enterprise, whilst also starting and developing their own company, having "pitched" for "seed-corn" capital of up to £5000 from "Buckingham Angels".

I also teach International Marketing Management and Marketing Management to undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Buckingham.

I started developing my understanding of business following my graduation in Business Studies in 1970. I became an Export Manager and then "Countertrade" Manager with Massey Ferguson and later with Cargill SA.

I was recruited by the British Government's Know How Fund in 1993 and lived in Poland for 9 years, advising and working with the senior managers of many Polish companies during their restructuring, prior to privatisation. Based in a Polish regional bank and its investment fund in Lodz, I worked as a member of one of the British Government's Enterprise Restructuring Project (ERP) teams. Our ERP in Lodz resulted in the successful privatisation of many companies in the Polish bank's Investment Fund portfolio.

Since 1999, I have provided strategic and practical advice and support to the management of western companies, to enable them to successfully establish subsidiary businesses in Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. As a result of my business development work, one of my clients won contracts to the value of more than £1.5 million within 18 months of establishing businesses in Central Europe. My client also won a UK government award for Export 'Trailblazing'.

A case study on my work advising and assisting the management of Beck & Pollitzer Engineering Ltd to establish and develop their business in Poland was published in a special issue of the "European Journal of Marketing" in Spring 2007, (Volume 41, Issue 3/4).

Having more than 35 years international business experience, I have an extensive network of business, finance and diplomatic contacts.

I am also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Chartered Marketer and helped to establish in Poland, the first officially recognised branch of Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) in Continental Europe. I am also the Vice Chairman of the East Midlands board of the CIM and treasurer of the Northamptonshire branch (See: http://cimnorthants.blogspot.com).

As part of my work to mentor and support new entepreneurs, I am Chairman of the Young Enterprise County Board for Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes.
