Expand using someone else's Capital and Resources

The challenge of how to expand within available resources is one that faces most businesses at some point.
For business owners and investors there are ways of expanding a business without the need for additional investment or borrowings - and this means improved ROI, profitability, cash flow and sale value.
Until recently, franchising was applicable to a limited number of businesses as it involved replicating the whole business. However, many manufacturing and service companies have successfully licensed part of their business to produce increased sales and profit by bringing additional volume to the core business. For example you could provide a license to sell your products or services on a commission only basis - a very attractive business model.
Done correctly, franchising or licensing provides accelerated growth, additional income streams and cash flow without the need for additional overheads and it can run alongside organic growth.. Income streams include the Initial Fee, a Training Fee (the franchisee/licensee pays for their own training) and an ongoing income which can be arranged in a variety of ways to suit each situation.
I believe it is important for a business wanting to franchise or license all or part of its operation to work with someone with practical hands on experience. My first directorship was in 1972 and since then I have run and owned businesses across a range of sectors.
In the 80s I brought a USA franchise into the UK and later franchised two of my own businesses, both from start-up, taking one overseas and I was the lead consultant for a UK PLC when it developed a new franchise model.
