I love writing. Always have done. From being a small child, I've dreamt of writing - at that time of becoming a great poet, immortalised by my work. As I grew up, I didn't discard this dream but I did realise that it would also be rather nice to make some money. I suppose this is a challenge we all face at some point: to combine our dreams with the practicalities of life (or rather living a dream that also puts a roof over our heads). It was that path that led me to journalism. At first I thought this would be a poor compromise for my creative spirit. But as I learnt to write as a journalist, I discovered more rewards than I ever imagined. I worked with incredible mentors, who I admired creatively and intellectually. I felt part of a 'gang' of like-minded people, all obsessive about making every single word count. We competed to create the most powerful concise copy - and that was before I started working with clients in the corporate world. Here, I felt I could be truly valuable - translating their ideas into engaging copy that helps them build their businesses.

As for the poetry, well I still do that too. But my audience so far is not quite so receptive as they are to my business writing skills...
