Last month iTunes featured podcasts for the first time in 67 countries across the world. Populations now enjoying the true podcast experience include those in Brazil, Russia, India and China - they of BRIC fame, the most rapidly expanding economies on the planet.

How does that measure up, numbers-wise? Well, taken collectively, those 67 countries have a total population of 4.3 billion. Put it another way: about 65% of the total world population.

Until mid-June, iTunes' Podcasts Store reached out to a maximum market of just 15% of all people worldwide.

Irrespective of your product, these are pretty incredible numbers. And unless you have a podcast - audio, video or both - you're missing out on a huge opportunity to talk business with nearly two-thirds of the global population in the most engaging way possible.

Let's turn to YouTube. In December 2008 the video site yielded 2.9 billion searches. In a single month.

In December 2009, according to comScore's US Search Rankings Report, YouTube searches had grown 35% to more than 3.9 billion search queries YOY. YouTube not only had 50% more searches than Yahoo (3.9 billion against 2.6 billion) and 180% more searches than Bing (3.9 billion vs 1.4 billion), but the number of searches at the online video giant made up almost 28% of the total searches on Google that month.

Wouldn't you like a slice of that pie?

As Facebook readies to announce its 500 millionth registered member, it truly is a time to kickstart your strategy to reach out and build incredible customer relationships online. And there's no better way to be there with passion, personality, presence and product than with your company's very own podcast and broadcasting strategy.
