Some of you maybe aware that Ecademy's former CEO Glenn Watkins departed May 31st 2011 after 13 years commitment to building this community. Penny and I would like to publicly thank Glenn for the huge contribution he made to this place since 1998. Glenn will be sadly missed by us all.
Ecademy is now seeking a new CEO to lead the group to 2020. Penny Power and I are looking for someone who believes in the small businesses across the world and sees the power of the online world in supporting them and creating a community for them to thrive and grow through shared values. We have ambitious plans for all our futures and are seeking investment; ideally the chosen CEO will buy in and join the two of us as equal shareholders on The Ecademy Board. However this is not certain and other investors may come forward. We are seeking someone who is financially savvy, technically savvy and of course "Socially" savvy. These are broad and rare skills to find in a single individual. We must be patient in our search. We would be grateful if you as members could recommend and tweet this blog and spread the word among your friends and peers in order that we might find the right person. The right person for you as members, the right person for Ecademy and the right person for us as directors. Thank you in advance to each of you for your support in this endeavour. Please contact me on thomas.power@ecademy.com if you wish to introduce or recommend someone or yourself. Please remember the following hints whilst looking for your new Glenn: Do NOT hire somebody because you like him or her Do NOT hire someone because you can afford him or her! Do NOT hire someone Who claims to be the best invention since sliced bread! Look for a person who is brilliant in fields where you and Penny fall short! Look for someone Who is happy to fight with you and Penny like cats and dogs if need be for the proper cause! (the wellbeing of Ecademy and all its stakeholders) Look for somebody who has the guts to explore new avenues even if that feels awkward. No guts no glory! When you pay them peanuts, you get monkeys, so be prepaired to pay through the nose for the best possible person! If he is realy good, you can afford more than you think! Look for a person that can speak more than one language!! And look for someone who resembles a turtle! He or she will get hammered all the time! Also remember to tell him or her to be willing to live like a microbe! In this role this person will have to eat lot of ****! However despite all this, I think this is a great opportunity for the right person to crap the chance of a lifetime! Best of luck on your search for the right person! and remember, I'm never more than a phonecall or email away! Regards, Sanjay Product Management Head, Eveready Industries India. indeed Thomas, it was a tearfull day, but we think positive. As Fred already said, don't take the first person and i believe that the multilanguage is a must. mybe, a foreigner as CEO....? However, in the meantime, i take my responsabilities in the Ecademy Team so you and Penny could to a proper search. I'm just a call away for other support Grtz Peter assume you do not mean the age otherwise I would qualify take care John Jeckmans BSc, MBA, AInstIB, ECInstIB TripleCo P.O. The real Steve Holmes it is then! John A Murray I don't see anyone here in the UK upto this tough Role, Thomas ... But from the positive input & ideas he has been putting forward in the 4.5 yrs I have been here, I would also say Lucas would make a great CEO, imho ! Very Knowledgeable, Very Supportive ! Would take a true Euro / Global Ecademy Platform into the next level. Worth an intensive Interview, I'd say ? Unless of course, the new Person has to be a UK Foundation & Life Member, living in Adam Street ? Milton Rodrigues Mr. Cricket. Both Penny and I are quite keen on a non-member outside the UK as they will have a completely fresh view Milton. Thomas, You have well described your requirements about this person. It would be also helpful to describe the job and the environment into which he/she should work. Regards, Strashimir Broad and rare skills indeed, Thomas, and a tough act to follow. The stuff of a living, walking, classical Chief Executive Dave Clarke The applicant will no doubt be a very unique individual... any chance I could send Robert Mugabe across for an interview... ![]() With a passion as warm as the rising African Sun Andrew trades at Empire Avenue - come join me there! He also blogs at South of the Africa Equator Of course Andrew does Twitter a bit - Follow @zimbandrew LinkedIn: Andrew Field - link up there too Harare, Zimbabwe Far be it from me to tell my grandparents how to suck eggs but the smart money on businesses that want to both survive and thrive in this decade is to employ a CIO. That is a Chief Innovation Officer as reported in the FT - then for a company the size of Ecademy, a General Manager could be employed for day to day operational matters that I suspect Glenn got begrudgingly sucked into The CEO role could then be redefined as Chief Evangelist which Thomas already fills with Penny as CFO - i.e. Chief Freedom Officer etc etc P.S. the word Officer could probably do with retiring nowadays too ![]()
