Hi,

I am reading blogs everyday written by fellow ecademists.
Many members include longer signatures in their comments, many even insert LOGO into it.
I read one of the blog with 14 comments. The size of page could be easily reduced by 40% if we remove all signatures from comments.

I understand that intention of writing blog is to give some visibility to services individual offers and also give visibility to search engines. But isn't it is too much to include lots of text and big logos into signature?

I believe the signature should be of maximum 2 lines and should not contain logo or any other image.
BTW images into blog are not indexed by search engines.

What do you believe and why?

I believe it should be minimal, in fact I don't use one as I find it all clutter.

I understand there are many reasons for people using them, like search engine rankings/raising their profiles, but I just find it not at all helpful.

I'd limit to a maximum of two.

Visualization supports Communication

Hello, Vinnie,

People communicate to somewhat 70% visual, not ?

They're easily annoyed by written things and more likely to escalate issues upon such simple things like smileys missing.

The more you narrow a communication channel the more people are likely to discuss things endlessly around marginal points, not ?

Visualization for me means to make things much clearer at first comment than without, not ?

Also think of people who might be new on the internet, maybe not knowing about preferred styles in a community and everything.

Where would be development of personal style once only one channel was open ?
How could you distinguish soap-operas from true entrepreneurs or people whose style appeals ?

There is four kind of users out there in my opinion and ecademy seems to be open for them:

A: The pure business purist and sunny style consisting of pure message, even lacking some more personal approach like "Dear . . . ,", reduced to the maximum and coming from an ethnical background where K.I.S.S. rules (reminds me somewhat of Speaker's Corner, any idea if speeches should be short or maybe even a bit longer than expected as long as people cherish, any idea ?)

B: The more flowery social and moony style that prefers to communicate more detailed and elaborated upon maybe missing K.I.S.S. or coming from different ethnical background where bloomy language might be more polite.

C: The mass approach style that permanently dances along the ridge of being spammy with low content and extreme signature . . .

D: The D-type . . . secret, only answered upon request . . . *schmunzelgrins* . . .

Regarding the C-type I act the same like with emails. After a short time I just ignore them.
A and B may vary upon weather conditions.

Let me ask you a question: Why does ecademy allow and not limit the allowed HTML tags ? You wouldn't share a little insight in your opinion in this regard, would you ?

Isn't it a bit like in real life ? Just fancy a company that consists of 100% purists. Just imagine their customer support upon inbound complaints.

Or a society that walks the talk by focussing 100% to the talk.

This is my opinion and shoudn't be perceived as universal since I'm a newbie and open for new ideas and arguments that convince me to change attitude and approach which may lead to better SAA.

Please convey my regards to your family, Vinnie,
Andreas Wiedow

Your ecademy profile and what you put in it is a bit like getting dressed up - it's what you show to the world. You may have noticed a general distaste for "blogverts" amongst those who blog - blatant advertising running contrary to the the Ecademy code of conduct and ethics.

Increasingly those with long, lurid and blatant signatures are seen to be selling. This has aroused comments like this but less members will connect with those with blatant signatures in a similar way that those without photographs on their profile receive less attention.

That's is how this platform and community operates. So look at how you present yourself to the world and consider the effect on others. In marketing terms I believe it is known as "positioning".

Dear Edward,

Though you appear to me as an experienced ecademist you wouldn't share your impressions in regard to my blogging, would you ?

Wondering if you've read a single blogging I contributed on ecademy since . . .

Anyone else whose fingers may be nervous and short to reply may feel enforced to do likewise. Honest and sustainable feedback regardless maybe harshy sounding content is highly appreciated.

Warm regards,
Andreas Wiedow

Hi Edward,

Positioning is very important especially where total number of members are increasing beyond 100K mark.

I dont have photo because for a short time my profile is down, otherwise having photo on member comment is very important element and there is no doubt about it.

My intention of this blog was to point people to keep their signatures limited in space (height) so that it is easy to follow the flow of whole blog and its comments.

Lets take example of your comment above, your signature is neat and clean without using logos etc, fine. But total space occupied is still high. your total commenting space used on screen is (W 613 H 169) means you are occupying 169 pixels on screen with your comment text. Now you are using screen space (W 613 H 189) means 189 pixels in signature itself.
W= width H=height

If you want to compare this with total visible area on browser, it is H 532. means if you put your three signatures, it will fill whole visible screen or it will increase length of page by 100%.

What do you think?

I (obviously) prefer a visual signature, my reasons;

- I find it easier to recognise people and relate them to their business if they have a logo in their signature; I remember them easier this way.

- Ecademy exposes one's brand, and if we aren't showing our logos, this greatly reduces the benefit for the membership. This does not relate to spam posts, but geniune posts with visual signatures in them.

- The signatures can be used to advertise one's services, this is important for those of us in an industry where we sell visuals (I.e. me). If you aren't selling on Ecademy this is irrelevant to you, but many of us are and so need to be able to use our signatures to sell our services.

You will no doubt be irked by my latest signature! smile

Amanda
